LISTENING TO COEXISTENCE:
WORKSHOP AND AUDIO CINEMA EVENT
WITH ARTIST ELIN MAR ØYEN VISTER
Small Projects Gallery, Tromsø
Curated by Calder Harben
Sunday, 21. September, 2014
In conjunction with the current exhibition, No Place: Queer Geographies On Screen, Small Projects hosted artist Elin Mar Øyen Vister in leading a guided listening workshop. Elin Mar presented some of her latest recordings through an 'audio cinema' event, and opened a discussion on practises and strategies for listening to coexistence.
Listening is a sensory experience. It is an active process and communication. The practice of 'Deep Listening' was first termed by composer Pauline Oliveros as a way to 'listen to listening itself', to consider the ways we voluntarily and involuntarily listen to the world everyday. Through some practical exercises and open discussion led by Elin, this workshop will ask the ways in which sonic awareness can inform what and how we communicate with the political, social and ecological environments we coexist in.
