Calder Harben (b. 1986 Toronto, Canada, lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark) received their MFA in Contemporary Art from Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art and creative writing, University of Tromsø (NO) in 2015, simultaneous to a diploma from the Nordic Sound Art program. They received an interdisciplinary BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (CA) in 2009.
Harben's practise primarily uses sound and installation towards exploring thresholds of perceptibility, through sound and body. What are the limits of what we can sense? How do things beyond our perception impact onto our bodies? They engage in individual, collaborative and community-based projects on topics of ecology, human/more-than-human, and borders. They approach their work through a lens of queer, decolonial and embodied practises.
